When?
From September 18th
to 20th 2009.
And when exactly will the retreat start?
When the first picker arrived. In previous meetings of our banjo community we found it useful that we had no fixed starting time and no fixed program.
If the first participants arrive around 4 pm we should have enough time
getting to know each other and organizing things.
Of course it doesn´t matter if someone arrives later.
Departure Sunday, 20.9.09 after lunch.
Who?
We are not only banjo players and of course we want guitars, tin
whistles, fiddles, mandolins and anything that is used in folk music -
primarily England and USA, but as you like it. And we also love the
blues. And we also love singer / songwriters. We absolutely love
(almost) everything on acoustic instruments. Ok, we also love strongly
enhanced electric guitars, sometimes. But not from 18 - 20.9.09.
We then are nothing more than Folkies.
And
we look forward to receiving applications from people who are
experienced in singing and playing - if they are satisfied that we are
even more pleased about people who are not really sure whether they are
"good enough" on their instruments for a jam session. If you feel to be
a "beginner", this retreat is for you! Contact me via email (see
"Contact" on the bar on the right). We then can do a phone call about
it.
This retreat is about having fun and sharing music and skills. As Patrick always says: "It's all about sharing."
Where?
In Kiel-Friedrichsort directly on the beach in the Villa Falkenhorst.
You may find it
here
If you prefer google maps, got to
my post on the blog
What to bring with you?
All instruments, which can play - or with which you have fun (I know, this isn´t the same thing :-)
Sleeping bag
A clamping sheet to cover the mattress where you lay your sleeping bag.
How?
The Villa has rooms for six, three and two individuals. However, this occupancy of rooms is meant for school classes. Adults would prefer more space. Therefore, we will put three folks into the
6-beds-rooms each, 2 into the 3-beds-rooms each and one person in every
2-beds-room. In fact they are bunk rooms. Don´t expect "beds like
at home". So we all will have enough space and there´s no need to sleep on the feet of your neighbors. Keep your feet still Geordie Hinni ...
Like this we will be 16 folks.
Food?
We feed ourselves. The house has a large kitchen, where we provide our own meals. Thus the adventure-factor of this weekend will be increased :-)
Martina and me (she is also known as "Katrina with the clarinet-capo") - will do the shopping. Then we all together will prepare (more or loss) delicious meals. Anyone who feels to serve the community as a chef may be happy to do so.
If weather allows, we can have a barbecue.
How much is it?
Inexpensive. The price for the whole house on a weekend is 400 € with additional costs for electricity. That would be around € 30 per person for accommodation over the whole weekend (Exactly 25 € + electricity).
Shopping for food and drink will be organized by Martina and me. We will share the costs by numbers of participants.
A deposit is not required. I would like to get the money for the house on Friday we will have a calculation of food and beverag on Sunday. Foreign participants (from outside the €-zone) should bring enough Euros. To change British Pounds in Kiel on the weekend could be difficult.
As an event manager, unfortunately, I have absolutely no
experience, so I do not know what food an beverages will cost. All in all, the
total cost per person should be less than 100 €.
